Invergara Club is a private members club located in Lavington area in Nairobi, Kenya. The Club was established in 1948 to cater for the entertainment and social needs of the early Settler Community in Lavington, Valley Arcade, Kileleshwa, Kilimani and neighboring areas. Infact legend goes that on 20th October, 1952, then Police Commissioner received orders from the Governor to arrest and detain the founder father of the Kenya Nation, Mzee Jomo Kenyatta over the club telephone line while having his evening drink with friends at the famous Invergara Club Bar counter. This was at the beginning of the emergency period declared by the colonial authorities to deal with the Mau Mau uprising.
Today Invergara remains a private members club with a friendly and relaxed ambience where members meet and socialize as they establish close interpersonal bonds that at times last a lifetime. Although a good number of members are from the neighborhood the club is frequented by members from all corners of Nairobi City as well as many visiting guests from other counties. Membership is by invitation and is open to all those who meet the club’s balloting committee guidelines irrespective of race, ethnicity, religion or nationality.
